Development Squad 2019-2020
After gaining access to a permanent weekly slot at MC, the DUNC Development Squad has gone from strength to strength this season. A long squad of 24 were selected out of the college netball players to form an A and B team which enabled both individual improvement and bonding as teams. As well as typical training drills, such as emphasis on footwork, use of space and court communication, sessions were held throughout the year with specific focus on attacking and defensive skills. With the increase in numbers from last year, the 2 teams created meant an increase in motivation at practices and allowed a real team mentality to form at both training and in games. Throughout the season, the girls played against Leeds Devs Squad, Newcastle Medics and Brays netball club. Over all three games the improvement was so noticeable and it's been fantastic to see the girls take the skills learnt back to their college teams, which is hugely important in enabling the standard of netball at Durham to continue rising! A massive thank you to Hannah Newman and Ailsa Maclean who coached the girls this year and a huge congratulations to Ellie Melville who has been selected to take over next season - we know she will do a fantastic job! |
